Alpha-Theta Meditation – How to Wage Guerrilla War Against Negative Beliefs
Article by Richard M. Frost
A recent study commissioned by the National Institutes of Health showed that 9.4% of Americans practiced some sort of meditative activity. What are all these people hoping to achieve? For some, meditation is principally about stress reduction. For others, it is a spiritual pursuit, expressed in innumerable different ways according to the multitude of faiths that prescribe some form of contemplation. But for me, meditation is an opportunity to alter my state of consciousness and reprogram my subconscious mind.
Understanding The Power of Your Beliefs
If you are perfectly content with your lot in life – your circumstances, your relationships, your health, your happiness – then you probably don’t need to read any further. But for the vast majority of us who seek positive change in some aspect of our lives, sooner or later we must understand that our beliefs are holding us back. The kind of beliefs I’m talking about here are not beliefs in the existence or non-existence of God, or beliefs that Republicans are fundamentally more patriotic than Democrats. (I’m going to resist the temptation to explore that tangent!) No, what we need to examine are our beliefs about ourselves and how life works. Do you expect yourself to succeed or to fail? Do you believe that you can have a truly loving relationship with someone else, or do you expect nothing but acrimony because all men are pigs (or women are you-know-whats)? Do you believe that your body will inevitably fall apart with age, or do you think that age is just a meaningless number?
Beliefs have power. That power comes from you originally, when you choose the beliefs that will occupy your mind. (We are not going to blame other people for putting those beliefs there; we are going to take responsibility for them. For by taking responsibility we ultimately empower ourselves to change.) Beliefs have a tendency to gather corroborating evidence around them, making themselves appear more plausible. Over time, they affect your words and deeds, causing you to bring about the expected conditions. Don’t believe me? Try spending the next month of your life thinking that your spouse is evil. Sense the negative emotions welling up within you. Watch your attitude toward him or her change. Wait for the arguments to ensue. The snowball effect will kick in and, before you can say “I told you so,” your relationship will be in serious trouble. Now, I don’t want you to engage in such an experiment, but it is a useful thought exercise, and one that teaches you to be mindful of your beliefs at all times. You may not be doing anything quite so destructive with your thinking, but is there room for improvement? Of course there is.
How To Cut Off Negative Beliefs at Their Roots
Precisely because beliefs are so powerful, they can be enormously difficult to change. We may be able to recognize the need to change, if we are honest enough with ourselves and take the time for serious introspection. But uprooting those deeply entrenched mental structures can be next to impossible. Carefully selected positive affirmations – designed to counteract longstanding negative beliefs – are like foot soldiers going up against heavy artillery. To have any chance of success, you need to engage in guerrilla tactics. You must take the battle to a different front – the subconscious mind.
In our normal waking state, in which the conscious mind attends to all the day-to-day details of living, the brain operates at a fairly rapid frequency known as the Beta wave. The realm of the subconscious mind is experienced by most people only in certain stages of the sleep cycle, or by experienced meditators. In this state, the brain slows down and demonstrates Alpha and (even slower) Theta waves. If you can find a way to remain consciously aware while in an Alpha or Theta state, you will have an opportunity to commune directly with your subconscious mind, into which your beliefs have sunk their roots. It is at this level that you must plant more positive concepts that can, over time, supplant your negative beliefs and replace them with concepts that will manifest a higher quality of life for you.
Remaining conscious in these deeper states of mind is something of an art form. If you become too relaxed, it is easy to simply fall asleep. But for those of us who are not seasoned meditators, the new audio technology of brainwave entrainment can help. Precisely engineered soundtracks can encourage your brain to operate at Alpha and Theta frequencies while you hold on to your positive affirmation as a focal point. With practice and some determination, you will feel the change in your awareness as you descend within, you will sense how close you are to the wellspring of inner power and creativity, and you will know that you are changing your reality.
The best brainwave entrainment techniques recognize the difficulty of this balancing act and deliberately entrain combinations of frequencies that help you retain conscious awareness while simultaneously granting access to the subconscious mind. teach yourself meditation question by jody: Do you feel like you are stuck in the Matrix?
The Matrix was one of the most popular and thought-provoking movies of all time. Viewers all over the world were captivated by the film’s primary message: People get into deep trouble when they mistake what they perceive for reality.
What most viewers do not realize is that prior to the release of this groundbreaking film, western intelligence agencies were already using the term “the Matrix” to describe today’s world. This was in contrast to their work with remote viewers, who would “escape the matrix” to gather intelligence. Art truly does imitate life.
In the movie, the Matrix is an elaborate Artificial Intelligence computer simulation that’s so captivating that people mistake it for reality. People perceive they are walking about and interacting with others, but their physical bodies are actually submerged in fluid-filled pods, “plugged into” the Matrix, while their vital life force is harnessed to power the Matrix.
After Neo (Keanu Reaves) learns the truth, with the help of Morpheus’s (Lawrence Fishburne) training, he is able to overcome his misconception that the Matrix is reality. Neo rebels against the machines that create his false reality and, eventually, he escapes the limitations of the Matrix. To others, he has developed superhuman abilities, but, “in reality,” he has merely recognized the truth.
Escaping the Matrix is a metaphor for the mystic path to enlightenment.
The Matrix can be defined as the world that we perceive, which includes the physical world, as well as higher planes of emotions and thoughts, which also affect us.
Within the Matrix, are countless fear-based thoughts and emotions that condition us to accept limitations. We are taught that we have little power, and what little power we do have, we are advised to delegate to authority figures and experts. Swimming in a sea of negative thoughts, we are prompted to use our creative ability to imagine even more negative thoughts. Without introspection, the Matrix gets darker and more dense. Anyone who blindly accepts these prevalent, negative thoughts will have his or her life path dictated by the Matrix.
But those who recognize that it is our collective thoughts and beliefs that power the Matrix will recognize the way out. When we incarnate on earth, we temporarily forget the higher truth of who we are. Our life mission is to remember, to connect with our innermost self, so that we may transcend the Matrix.
The reality we perceive with our senses is not the true reality, but merely a small portion of reality, masquerading as the whole. But, unlike the “alternate reality” that Neo must extricate himself from, in our “reality,” there is no need to rebel. Rather, our goal should be to transcend. We want to “be in this world, but not of it.”
The outer world is a reflection of our inner thoughts and beliefs, whether individual or collective, which have been conditioned by our experience in the Matrix. Consequently, the Matrix is a learning environment, where we get feedback on how our thoughts manifest. Thankfully, our negative thoughts do not (typically) manifest instantaneously. Otherwise, we would risk the spontaneous destruction of our world by thinking negative thoughts.
Clearing yourself of negative energies through daily meditation can provide a direct link to the “ultimate reality,” i.e., the pure consciousness residing within each of us. As your negative beliefs are purified through regular contact with the “light” of your divine nature, unhealthy emotions, such as fear and anger, will naturally begin to diminish, and you’ll be free to transcend to higher states of consciousness. You will “download” more of your own true self, while simultaneously and automatically attracting others of similar vibration.
Your world will become more synchronistic. You will repel angry, fearful people, and those who stick around will become calmer and more centered. You will radiate love. By simply being in higher consciousness, you will have a greater effect on the world than the most gifted orators and political leaders.
The higher your consciousness and energy are vibrating, the faster your thoughts will manifest. When you align with your innermost self, you are aligned more closely with the Source of all creation. At the apex of your individual consciousness, you are connected with The One. You then have at your disposal the entire universe to help you manifest the highest good for all.
In actuality, we are single points of awareness in the Oneness that is Reality. What we interpret as the physical world is the projection of this awareness, which is taking place in the Mind of God. We are, as Shakespeare pointed out, merely “actors” in a divine play.
When we wake up to this knowledge, the play does not stop. We are free to act or interact, in bliss and peace, unattached to the M

No.
Stop this and go outside for some fresh air.
Also, if this is the Matrix, why would the machines allow a human to create a movie based on itself, revealing what it was.
Duh.

I sat on zafu and zabuton with my instructor for 25 – 45 minutes at a time every Sunday for months, and he would chastise me gently for fidgeting. He also pointed out that the “discomfort” is your body’s way of trying to distract you, and when you ignore the distraction, the distraction goes away. Also, if your toes and/or legs are going to sleep, then let them, but if you fidget, then sure as shooting, they’ll hurt MORE as the blood rushes into them. So don’t fidget. Just sit.

Guided meditation provides a fast, simple and effective way of uniting with your inner source of wisdom and well-being. Your mind and body are wise and capable of getting exactly what you need at any given time.
It’s no secret that there are a host of benefits for you to experience when you meditate and believe it or not many of those same benefits can be experienced through a guided or led meditation as well.
But there is another and a very serious problem involved. When you place yourself before the vast sea of information about the principles, basic philosophies and practices of meditation, chances are you might simply get bedazzled. After all, meditation, though it grew primarily out of the Pan-Hindu cult in greater parts of India, different sects (e.g. Buddhism) have molded it in different patterns to suit their individual needs. So you are likely to get confused regarding which path you should undertake for yourself.
Tendency towards more happiness and optimism – It’s funny, when you begin listening to a guided meditation on a daily basis it has the ability to take you that place deep within yourself that is still and peaceful, yet, when you come back to awareness oftentimes that stillness and peace transforms to a sense of happiness and optimism to yourself and those around you.
Helps quiet the “mind chatter” – Believe it or not, a majority of your problems are only problems in your mind because of all the “mind chatter” that surrounds them. In fact, before you begin a meditation practice on a daily basis what you may have found yourself doing before was listening to the “mind chatter” and acting on it in the hopes of it then quieting down.
Dedicating the time to your self-care – the act of intentionally listening to a guided meditation is in itself the claiming of time to nurture and care for yourself. This act creates a positive message that says “I am worthy of this time, I deserve to replenish”.
Engaging the relaxation response – guided meditations are designed to engage the relaxation response in mind and body through the use of progressive relaxation and visualization techniques.
Speak with the teachers of guided meditation and find out a suitable program for yourself.
Get to know clearly about the duration of the course, its calculated costs, and the clauses for refunding of initially paid money and the guarantees given by the course authorities.
Practice the techniques for a while and get to know if they are really working for you up to the satisfactory level. You are the one who would know best.
The practice of Meditation is just one of the many powerful tools that you can use in order to help Heal You First.
