I sat on zafu and zabuton with my instructor for 25 – 45 minutes at a time every Sunday for months, and he would chastise me gently for fidgeting. He also pointed out that the “discomfort” is your body’s way of trying to distract you, and when you ignore the distraction, the distraction goes away. Also, if your toes and/or legs are going to sleep, then let them, but if you fidget, then sure as shooting, they’ll hurt MORE as the blood rushes into them. So don’t fidget. Just sit.

Finding extra time to learn how to meditate for beginners is a huge issue for many people just starting out. The fact is our lives are so crazy staying busy all the time, you can’t help but “feel” there is just not enough time in the day.
Here’s a little secret I discovered a while back and it blew my mind when I realized it. The reason I didn’t have any extra time was because I kept saying “I don’t have any extra time”, or “where does the time go”, and my all time fav “who has time for that?”
The more we “feel” and focus on not having any time, the greater the issue becomes. We manifest EVERYTHING we think about…i.e. the day “feels” like it goes by faster and faster and we accomplish less and less.
To maintain a frantically busy schedule takes a lot of time, effort and energy. It’s no wonder most of the population is exhausted all the time and becoming ill.
The good news is, at any time you can recreate your life. Start out by saying “I have plenty of time. There is enough time to accomplish everything I need to”. More importantly, feel it. If you don’t feel it at first, that’s ok. Just keep on saying it till you feel it;).
You can also make a commitment to yourself to sit quiet and still to meditate for 5 minutes a day. Just 5 minutes to start….that’s it! For that 5 minutes you will commit to set down your to-do list and clear your mind.
You will just sit and quiet your mind for that 5 minutes. Close your eyes and breathe in deep until you can feel the oxygen fill the lower portion of your lungs. Exhale and release. Repeat.
5 minutes…super simple! As time goes on, your meditations will lengthen in time and your mind power will increase until you have mastered it.
Things may or may not appear to change at first, but the more you consistently change your inner dialogue to think there is plenty of time, your physical World will change, guaranteed. You may even maintain the same schedule but it will FEEL like you have more time… make sense?
