People think that meditation is hard and that you need to be a full time monk to be able to meditate properly.
That’s simply not true.
Absolutely anyone can learn how to meditate quickly and easily. You don’t have to go through an elaborate ritual to be able to meditate. Put simply, meditation is way to get in touch with your inner self.
Here are some tips to make your meditation even easier:
1. Choose the right teacher. Whether you are learning meditation with an online course or in a local group, pick a teacher you get on with and one who is teaching the kind of methods you get along with.
2. Learn to relax your body. As a typical tensed up westerner, this may be the biggest skill you need to learn. But once you learn how to relax, you’ll find meditation so much easier. By the way, don’t stress yourself about learning to relax either!
3. Take it easy. No-one is going to give you a SATS test on meditation. It doesn’t matter if you take longer to learn meditation that someone else. It’s absolutely fine if you take your time to learn a technique. Everyone has their own speed of learning.
4. Respect yourself and others. Treat yourself and others respectfully. If you find yourself attracting negative people, change the signals you’re sending out (meditating regularly will help with this).
5. Get rid of distractions. Turn off your cell phone while you are meditating. Close down that chat window. Turn off the television (that’s good advice anyway, whether for meditating or not).
6. If possible, join a meditation group. Meditation is much more fun in a group and you’ll find that others are finding the same learning curve as you are. Groups generate their own energy – the sum of the whole truly is greater than the sum of the parts. Joining a group can widen your circle of friends and can be a booster to your confidence. Depending on the group’s aim, you may also learn about different meditation techniques as the group progresses.
7. Simply let go. The word “meditation” means trying to let go. Go with the flow. Allow what is happening to happen. Don’t fixate on exactly what your meditation experience should or shouldn’t be.

Most of us lead hectic lives as we balance our work with personal obligations. We may be stressed out juggling all of this and need some sort of stress release, even if it’s just a few minutes a day. Or we may be perfectly happy with our busy lives, but still could use some time to bring some peace and calm into our world.
Meditation has long been a practice that lets people find that inner peace and outer calm. It allows us to take a break from the busyness of our lives. It gives us a respite from hurrying about so we can create some outer calm. And it provides our minds with a rest from thinking overtime and growing more stressed by the day.
If you’ve never really experienced inner peace and outer calm, you’re in for a real treat. Meditation is not just for monks, religious fanatics, or recluses. Today meditation is for everyone who seeks sanctuary from the world-even for a few minutes a day. And it’s not all that complicated or difficult to do to get instant benefits. You might not become a master meditator and achieve instant stillness of your mind the first time you do it, but you will get immediate relief from your frantic life as you retreat into that quiet place within.
Here are 10 simple steps to start you on your way:
1. Commit to your daily practice. Decide that you will meditate every day, even if just for 5 minutes.
2. Find a place where you can meditate every day. Pick a quiet spot where you won’t be disturbed and meditate there every day, as you will build up energy in that space.
3. Choose the time. Meditate the same time each day if possible, best times being early morning or early evening. Start out for 5 minutes and add a few more minutes each day until you’re up to 20-30 minutes.
4. Prepare the environment. Light a candle, burn incense, create an atmosphere conducive to quieting your mind and body.
5. Warm up. Before meditating, practice yoga or stretch out your body to relax your muscles and slow down your mind.
6. Select the most comfortable posture. Most meditators sit in a chair, on the floor, or on a bench with a straight back. Find what works best for you so you stay alert but relaxed.
7. Start with 3-part breathing. Breathe in through your nose into your abdomen and let it expand. Bring the breathe into your lungs and let them fill up. Collapse your abdomen and push the air out through your nose.
8. Continue slow, deep breathing. Breathe slowly and deeply to a count of 5 for each of the three parts, until you feel sufficiently relaxed.
9. Select a method for each meditation session. You might try counting breaths, counting numbers or saying a mantra (a simple one is I AM). Listen to music, watch a candle. Observe your thoughts; stare at a mandala. You can also experiment with chanting, visualizing a relaxing scene, doing yoga, or simply practicing a state of mindfulness. All are all acceptable methods for meditating; find out which one works for you.
10. Keep a journal. Record your experiences with meditation to see what benefits you’re getting; this will keep you motivated to keep at it and try different things.
Some people meditate for years and never achieve a perfectly silent mind, however, if you don’t make that your only goal, you won’t set yourself up for disappointment or failure. Just look at the precious time you take to sit quietly in meditation as a mental spa, a break in your routine, a gift to yourself. You need to take time every day to recharge your mental and physical batteries. Consider meditation as your tool to achieve inner peace and outer calm to return to your life refreshed.

How to Meditate For Beginners – New Tips on How to Meditate Effectively

Beginners who want to learn how to meditate effectively often come across a variety of meditation techniques that can leave them feeling frustrated and confused. There are variations in how long you need to meditate, whether you need to sit in a certain posture, what to do to still your mind and what to do with your breath while you’re in that posture, and what kinds of results to expect and when to expect them.
Some techniques promise a reduction in your stress level, while others make larger, global promises. However, I suspect most beginners who want to learn how to meditate wish to experience results that increase the quality of their life in a relatively short period of time. For example, an increase in new insights, favorable synchronicities, occurrences of flow, and outer success. (This was my expectation when I began to learn how to meditate several years ago.)
After trying the standard meditation techniques with little to no results, I eventually learned that it wasn’t how you sat or how you breathed that was important. It wasn’t the breath or the mantra that was so important. It was whether your meditation connected you to that “higher self” aspect of yourself and whether you then integrated that part of you into your life through your actions.
Most meditation techniques lack this important step. In fact, many meditation techniques ask that you invalidate any thoughts or sensations you may have and return to some “silent source” or some outer point of focus. But what if this source wants to communicate with you? Besides, invalidating or dismissing any thoughts or sensations you have invalidates you as well as your connection to your higher self (the source of your intuition), making you powerless in the process and easy to manipulate. (And hasn’t this been humanity’s experience for ages?)
Now I know that some of your thoughts may feel silly to you at first, and some may bring up some fears, but your thoughts often come up because you need to work through them. You need to work through them to get to the next level, not to dismiss them. Your level of awareness, spiritual awakening and outer success will increase when you work through things, not dismiss them or disidentify with them.
How to Meditate for Beginners
With the help of the Counsel of Light I optimized a meditation practice that takes only 10 to 15 minutes, twice a day to do. It does not require you to place your attention on counting your breaths or on your posture but on your connection with your higher self. It does not require you to sit cross-legged. You may do it anywhere; you may lie down or be in any comfortable position of your liking.
Placing your hands on your heart and soul area (your sacred space) will help calm you so that you may begin to hear and distinguish the still inner voice of your higher self (and its wisdom) from the thoughts and fears that are keeping you stuck. Your connection with your higher self is the object of your focus, not some outer sound or forced mental picture or forced thought.
Sometimes you will find that there is some back and forth, some inner “battle” between your inner guidance and your mental conditionings. What are you going to feed? Work through the issues that come up, have a dialogue with yourself, if that helps. Write down your thoughts. Ask your higher self to help you work through them. You may find that you work through your old conditionings and fears in your dreams, for example. It is only after you work through your conditionings (by, for example, gaining a greater awareness or perspective about them) that they begin to leave you alone.
Of course once you begin to hear some inner guidance you will need to follow through promptly by taking action. Don’t worry; you will not be required to make huge leaps if you’re a beginner. Most likely, your higher self will help you gain gradual trust in your connection by asking you to take baby steps. For example, if you get an intuitive hunch to call a colleague and the call happens to land you an interview or a job, you will begin to have more confidence in your connection.
The more you do this, the more amazing insights and results you’ll attain and the more inner confidence you will have–this is the upward spiral.
Integration with your higher self is your goal; it is the source of your spiritual awakening. It is what this “Great Shift” in consciousness (and what “Christ consciousness,” and the whole 2012 thing) is about. The timing is perfect for this to happen now.
Learning how to meditate for beginners may seem difficult at first, but it is actually quite simple–if you release the things and techniques that don’t work and replace them with what’s really important.

Find a quiet place and sit in a comfortable chair with a back. Keep your head and neck straight. Breathe through your nose and use your stomach, or diaphragm, to breathe. When you exhale, count 1, next exhale, 2, etc. up to 10 and then begin again. You can either close your eyes or keep them focused on a single point. The most important thing is to concentrate on your breath and counting – thoughts will come inot your mind but do not dwell on them, just continue to focus on your breath and the count.
